Groenvlei Farm is what we consider to be the finest fly fishing farm in the Dullstroom/Belfast area. It’s a pretty big statement to make, but one we to take very seriously.
There is more to Groenvlei Farm than simply an outstanding stillwater trout fishery. We offer superb family accommodation, a free-range egg production unit and of course Groenvlei is a working farm, actively specializing in scarce game and stud cattle.
Next time you wish to break away from the city hustle make sure to pay us a visit. Apart from world class fly fishing for trout and bass, Groenvlei Farm offers visitors an excellent birding list, a safe and pristine hiking environment and also the opportunity to watch Wildlife.
Look around the website or visit our Facebook page for latest comments, and photos or simply make a booking by calling 082 682 0584.
It is very seldom that you find a venue where both the fishing and accommodation is superb. We are proud to say our accommodation offers more than the average fishing cabin in the area, and it is at a level to satisfy the hard-core adventurer to the wife and kids and therefore of course, the average Joe.
You will stay in a superbly appointed and extremely comfortable cottage with all the necessary amenities to make your stay everything you expect it to be.
There are three cottages on the property, all with unique characteristics and selling points. All three cottages offer gas and webber braai facilities.
Overlooking Cottage Dam main wall, the Groenvlei Cottage is the most popular accommodation on the farm. This elegant fisherman’s cottage complements both small groups and families alike.
Attractively furnished this cottage sleeps six guests with three bedrooms and bathrooms:
The master bedroom boasts one of two fireplaces, the second in the living room. There is fully appointed kitchen, including a microwave oven and a separate scullery.
The joy of this cottage is the vast expanse of lawns outside the front porch, making it ideal for the kids and/or picnics.
Floradale offers our visitors easy access to the jetties on Cottage Dam. Sleeping five Floradale is perfect for larger groups or those wishing to entertain in the large open plan living area.
The cottage sleeping arrangements include two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The kitchen is adjacent to the open plan living and dining area, which in turn opens onto the covered veranda.
A beautiful feature of Floradale Cottage is its proximity to an outdoor braai/boma area for evening entertaining and stargazing.
Boschbank House of a stylish and traditional old farmhouse. This is the largest house on the farm and can comfortably sleep 10 people in five bedrooms. One bedroom boasts en-suite facilities with the remaining rooms sharing an additional two bathrooms.
Although this cottage is away from the popular cottages and Steenkampsberg Dam, the joy of Boschbank House is the privacy and proximity to the remaining three farm dams.
Most guests comment on the elegantly furnished enclosed veranda and the spacious outdoor entertainment area, which is a must when hosting larger groups.
Booking your accommodation is as easy as giving us a call on 082 682 0584 we would love to share our farm, fly fishing and accommodation with you.
At Groenvlei Farm we want to be known by two significant fly fishing qualities.
What we will guarantee you is truly unique fly fishing environment stocked to perfection, creating the environment ideal for trophy fish. Feel free to visit our Facebook page to check on latest conditions, or read the Vagabond Fly Magazines references as to the quality of fly fishing on the farm.
Groenvlei Farms boasts five unique dams all stocked with trout, they include:
A crystal clear 5 HA dam situated directly outside both Groenvlei Cottage and Floradale Cottage. This dam satisfies both novice and experienced anglers alike due to the varying fly-fishing scenarios.
Cottage dam offers shallows fishing, drop-off fishing and in the evening prolific hatches create match the hatch scenarios that all fly fishermen dream of.
Key areas to fish are at the overflow and along deep weed channels, all of which can be accessed around the dam.
Our trophy water, this 18 HA dam offers fish space, food source and safety to grow large! This water is particularly challenging to fish, as big fish are generally smart but also bank access is limited making float-tubing the preferred method.
Key areas to fish include the drop offs directly off the dam wall and the shallow bank toward the jetty.
Steenkampsberg Dam also plays host to a secluded bird hide for those more interested in the feathered options available at Groenvlei Farm.
This is the highest dam on the property and boast a year round overflow toward Blesbok dam. Being set high in the craggy hills makes Waterfall Dam appear small, but don’t be fooled, this dam is deep and is home to some large trout and bass.
We have had success at every access point around the dam so one should not turn their nose up at fishing it.
Key tactic when fishing: slowly retrieved flies on intermediate lines are often met with regular bumps.
Moses dam is closest to Boschbank House, and is perfect to fish while waiting for the braai coals to settle. It is a very shallow dam in comparison to the others, but this makes sight fishing a fun and challenging possibility. This is particularly in the warmer months when bass fishing is at its best.
Key areas to fish include the island for it visibility and long casts toward the heavily weeded shallows.
A beautiful dam on the property situated within walking distance between both Moses and Waterfall dams.
Boasting a large surface area and uniform depth this dam offers both novice and advanced fly fisherman unique challenges. There are two jetty access points that regularly produce fish but the fishing is productive all around the water.
Key tactic: Long leaders on floating lines often help suspend flies above the significant weed beds and this tactic often leads to success.
Katrinarust is the source of our perfectly stocked trout.

There is “free range” and then there is Free Range! At Groenvlei Farm our chickens are truly free range. They are supplemented with laying feed, but spend most of their days outside foraging for natural food sources. This makes our eggs as healthy as Mother Nature intended and absolutely delicious.
The chicken laying pens are within short walking distance from the Boschbank cottage, and a short drive from the other cottages. You are welcome, with prior arrangement, to visit the chickens or collect free-range egg orders. Simply enquire with a member of the Groenvlei team as to the current prices of the eggs.
Additional eggs may be ordered and purchased prior to leaving. They will be ready and waiting at your cottage before your leave.
